Week 1, Our vision for our food system (Yes and...activity)
Starting to create our shared imagination of what our food system will look like:
‘Yes and’….. An improvisation exercise that acknowledges everyone’s ideas and builds on them, it can help us create an imagination and highlight the potential of our collective energy
We believe that change will start with our collective imaginations which can inspire our collective actions!
· If I could change one thing about the food system I would introduce growing spaces in all schools and public space to enable people to grow food and at a young age.
· Yes and, in that space I would grow a diverse mix of vegetables to bring back rare vegetable varieties
· Yes and, I would take families for walks and give people confidence in foraging and finding their own food
· Yes and, I would help schools create edible playgrounds, so kids have access to fruit and vegetables all day round
· Yes and, I would make sure everyone knows how to grow nutrient dense food that actually nourishes them
· Yes and, I would hope for equal access to food sources and dignity in accessing food
· Yes and, I want to improve the respect for food and farmers instead of food being a cheap commodity
· Yes and, I would remind everyone that we will make a huge difference in all of our actions
· Yes and, I would have everyone learn how to grow in those growing spaces, and I would add in growing fish in heated pools from compost energy so everyone can understand the circular nature and loop of our food system
· Yes and, I would change that all unhealthy foods were cheaper than healthy
· Yes and, I would make 2% of land in Wales available for growing food (fruits and vegetables) so that our children from edible schools can go on in to growing as a career
· Yes and, I would encourage the older generation who know how to grow vegetables can help younger generations
· Yes and, I would expand this by introducing the idea of permaculture and forest gardens, so we can grow food inline with ecological cycles and within our parameters, rather than in monocultures.
· Yes and, I would ensure the right to food is embedded in the UK legislation which would change the conversation and of course everyone would have access to healthy food
· Yes and, I would give everyone the opportunity to learn how to can and preserve their food, so they can make use of seasonal surplus’ and eat it into the winter
· Yes and, I would teach about seasonality, and engage the supermarkets in selling seasonal products, and get rid of local stuff so we can eat locally
Thank you for being part of the future, let’s make it happen!
