A working Draft: (Please send over amendments and additions to aberfoodsurplus@outlook.com)

The Food Activist Toolkit Mission Statement

This toolkit will:

-        be co-created by the participants of the course, and all feedback and ideas are welcome to shape the toolkits development

-       be an expression, and a continually developing piece of work welcoming feedback and changes

-       be visible, and business’, institutions, organisations, public bodies and individual households can ‘sign up’ and commit to action

-       help us map our food systems and food activists, highlighting where more can be done, or where collaboration and shared learning can take place

-       enable us to take action on systemic issues that are not being challenged yet

-       be welcoming and accessible to everyone. It will involve actions that we can all take to make a difference, and will make working towards a sustainable food system an empowering experience.

-       ensure everyone can be involved, we must consider how we make it available, whether this is a written format or takes a video form, we will explore routes to make this information engaging and interesting.

-       showcase and explore actions we can take as individuals, but also actions we can take as communities to highlight how working together we can build local food resilience.

-       highlight actions we can take as individuals, but it will also highlight actions we can’t take, or actions we need help to be able to take. Therefore, as well as providing actions for individuals, this toolkit will provide actions for policy makers, institutions, business’ and other organisations who can take action to help us to be food citizens.

-       explore how to better engage a bottom up model of sharing information, for example, can community professionals learn from our toolkit and apply it to their work. EG. we would like to support community dieticians and nutritionists to promote sustainable food system engagement.

-       explore other community roles that are connected to the food system and how we will be able to share the toolkit with them to utilise in their work
